Renovated Holocaust Museum is all about Humanity

September sees the start of renovation work at Hollandsche Schouwburg and the former Hervormde Kweekschool on Plantage Middenlaan. These two historic buildings, which played such a central role in the destruction of Dutch Jewry in the Second World War, are home to the new National Holocaust Museum, set to open in 2023. Hollandsche Schouwburg is a place in which to reflect and remember. The Kweekschool hosts permanent and temporary exhibitions about the history of the persecution of Jews in the Netherlands. OPERA Amsterdam and Studio Louter are developing the permanent displays.

Heritage in Motion Awards for ‘The Aztec Sun Stone 3D videomapping ’

We are happy to announce that we won a Heritage in Motion Awards for The Sun Stone videomapping! The Sun Stone is the most famous of all Aztec artworks: a huge, 3 meters wide stone intricately carved with figures and symbols.
The animation by Redrum was based on a 3D model of the stone, so the animation and stone blend together to give the suggestion that the stone itself is moving. Large projections left and right from the stone fill in the stories. Around the Sun Stone, artefacts of Aztec sculpture were placed and highlighted when mentioned in the stories. A secluded, round space was built around the Stone to create an intimate theatre where visitors are totally immersed to get as close as possible to the complex and beautiful creation myths of the Aztecs.

The Heritage in Motion Awards recognises innovative multimedia projects which promote, explore or safeguard Europe’s cultural heritage, and open up exciting new routes for audiences into heritage collections.

Studio Louter and OPERA Amsterdam design permanent exhibition National Holocaust Museum

We are honoured to announce that OPERA Amsterdam and Studio Louter will design the permanent exhibition of the new Nationaal Holocaust Museum. In the Hollandsche Schouwburg and the former kweekschool, the crimes form the war will be shown to the visitors unpolished, uncensored and in their full extent. At the same time, we bring an ode to  the lives of individual Holocaust victims. Because by keeping the victims’ stories alive, we keep the memory of them alive.
